Where are we?

Welcome:

Stones is renowned for the warmth of its welcome.  Creation of a coffee bar within the worship area is key to the very special social interaction that takes place at the end of each service.  Why not come along and join us.  We will be very pleased to see you.

Worship:

Morning worship takes place at 10.30 am every Sunday apart from Palm Sunday and Easter Day when times may vary (see quarterly plan of church services on this website).  All age worship is held monthly, otherwise the children and young people leave the service at around 11 am to attend crèche or Sunday School. They rejoin their families to share the sacraments and receive a blessing during our monthly celebration of Holy Communion (see quarterly plan).

Pizza, praise and party time for the young, and young at heart, takes place on a Sunday afternoon from time to time (see quarterly plan).

Mission Statement:

The mission of Stones is to respond to God’s calling, interpreting that in any way we are best able.

In particular we aim to:

  • grow as Christians through mutual support and care
  • explore new methods of contemporary worship
  • make good use of the talent we have within our church
  • nurture and encourage our young people
  • protect and maintain our social responsibility through the luncheon club, Friday get-together, spring and autumn fayres
  • engage with the immediate community around the church including the new housing estate and the young families who have moved there
  • bring more people into the building at Stones through lettings as well as church activities

Parking:

We have our own car park some 50 metres from the church building.  There is also roadside parking outside church.

Disabled Access:

There is full ramped access to the ground floor worship area and lower ground floor meeting rooms and there is a stairlift between floors.

Potted history:

The present building was erected in 1902, replacing the 1804 chapel that was in disrepair and had become inadequate for the needs of the time.  Major modifications since 1995 have greatly enhanced facilities for worship and for outreach.  A £400,000 refurbishment in 2004 has provided ultra-modern rooms for Sunday School and crèche and for use by the community.

Pastoral Care:

We have over 80 members and a further 100 adherents.  Everyone associated with the church is allocated a pastoral carer who keeps in touch and gives especial care in times of need.

Baptisms and Weddings:

Please get in touch with our minister if you wish to arrange a baptism or wedding at Stones.

Community Outreach:

Our meeting rooms shown opposite are widely used by community groups.  Hilltops Playcentre, on-site for more than quarter of a century, and Stones Baby & Toddler group provide valuable links with families in the neighbourhood.  Over the years several of these families have joined our worshipping community and are contributing immeasurably to church life. A highly successful dance school also meets on church premises. We would love more to join us!
